I was there, and I got to know John Barlow afterwards. It's all true. The band members also got a private tour and saw the not-yet-released Macintosh 2, as I recall. Barlow gave me a backstage pass for Shoreline, and I asked Jerry what he used his Mac for. It was for art, not for music.
Great story, thanks! I went to the First Conference on Computers, Freedom, and Privacy in Burlingame. John Perry Barlow was there as was Cliff Stoll, Lawrence Tribe, and other amazing folks I’ve forgotten. I think EFF was formed around that time.
That's a great story, Scott! It was my bedtime story tonight, so thank you!
Thanis, Barb!
Amazing!
Yes, EFF was formed in the late 80s. Barlow co-founded it with Mitch Kapor when he was still at Lotus.
Those were the days!

Yup. I just dug out my copy of the proceedings. EFF was a sponsor.
A great organization!
